Are there signs of when to replace my windows?
If you see ice on the inside of the window during winter, or if you can feel a temperature different standing in front of the window or if you can see condensation between the two panes, it is time to replace your windows.
Signs You Need To Replace Your Windows
Windows will typically last 15 to 20 years upon installation. If you’re not sure whether or not you need to replace windows, here’s a quick list to look over.
Ice Inside the Window
During winter, if you see ice forming on the inside of your window or you can see condensation between the two panes, it’s time to replace your windows.
Foggy Windows
Similar to ice freezing on your windows, fog indicates that condensation is making its way through the panes and into your home. Windows that don’t contain the moisture well are likely to lead to temperature regulation issues in your home.
Difficult to Open
If your windows are stuck or rough to open, you might need new windows. Over time, window frames run over dirt, rocks, and other substances wear down the window frame. This causes it to run roughly across its track.
Increasing Energy Bills
Curious if energy costs are going up or if your efficiency is going down? Drafty windows can make it difficult for your air conditioning or heating units to regulate the temperature in your home. If your energy bills are increasing without any known cause, check your windows.
Cracked Window Panes
While it’s a little more obvious that you’ll need to replace your windows if they’re cracked, many leave the crack as-is until the window is smashed completely. The cracked glass will let condensation, bugs, and spiders into your home if not sealed or replaced.
